Hello, Sam Bloom, (or Sam Ludgate) here. (Depending on when our paths last crossed.) I wanted to tell you about my new SAUNA project.

After a career change from being an Art Director in London, I now live and work in Cornwall, and since 2016 have been making cabins and other small sculptural wooden buildings.

Then in April 2023,  I experienced a profound loss. My brother George, who was perhaps my greatest creative inspiration, ended his own life. George’s death taught me that life is terrifyingly short and extremely fragile, and if you don’t grab it with both hands, you might miss it. It also helped galvanise a growing desire to make work without creative compromises.

So in August 2023 (with much grace from my ever supportive and beautiful wife) I embarked on designing, and self financing a sauna build. I wanted to make the building in the manner of an artist.

Without compromise.

Without constraints.

Without fear.

It has taken me nearly two years. It is a work built entirely from the soul.

Tactile and beautiful.

Durable and functional.

Quality and longevity are sacred requirements.

It’s a TEMPLE OF SWEAT.

A place of communion.

A place to worship the holt trinity of Sauna.

A space for ritual.

And now I need to find it a home. The Temple will be complete, and FOR SALE or  RENT in very early 2026. STRUCTURAL FRAME : UK Douglas Fir throughout. Douglas Fir is durable UK grown softwood that has high durability and strength + a natural resistance to  fungal and insect attack.

INTERIOR CLADDING : Thermo treated English Ash (Dark Chocolate Brown)

BENCHES: Thermo treated Alder - Imported (Dark Chocolate Brown)

EXTERIOR CLADDING : SW UK Larch. (Will mature to silver grey)

LIGHTING : Sauna specific LED lighting throughout from SAAS Instruments, Finland.

ROOF : 360 vented roof design with Zinc grey, folded Aluminium roof.

LARGE CIRCULAR PICTURE WINDOW: Laminated UK Douglas Fir, handmade in Cornwall.

FULLY INSULATED with Knauff Rocksilk. Mineral wool with ECOSE plant based binder, removing all reliance on formaldehyde or polyester binders, and PIR products, to maintain human respiratory health over the long term.

DRAINING FLOOR with durable, waterproof, sand coloured, Microcement.
